As a skilled occupational therapist for 40 years, Holly Charlton has been practicing as a pediatric occupational therapist since 2002. She has been providing services to children, adolescents, and young adults and their families and passionate in what she does. Her private practice is specialized using sensory integration techniques and the (SCERTS) model, both child directed, and relationship driven. She is committed to putting supports in place to help each child be successful, to ensure that their interests are supported, their voice is heard, and their strengths are validated and valued.
Holly’s long-term professional and personal relationship with Tamara and her boys, who are both nonspeaking, has been life changing on many levels. As Ian’s occupational therapist for 9 years, Holly’s connection with him evolved and grew as the relationship blossomed. Ian’s therapy aimed to help him find his voice and to connect with others. With Tamara’s support and promise to them, her boys’ voices were recognized and heard. Tamara and Holly joined together in a heartfelt assembly during Autism month at Ian’s junior high school that promoted inclusivity. It profoundly shifted the student body perspective that will be remembered to all those that witnessed this shift in human kindness.
